Sea Scribes, founded in 1988, is a community of individuals who share a passion for calligraphy. Our mission is to encourage, share, learn, and support our fellow members, as well as promote calligraphy and related arts in our community.
As part of our commitment to education, we have donated numerous instructional manuals and books on calligraphy to the Monterey Public Library in downtown Monterey, which are available for checkout to all Monterey County residents.
Sea Scribes is a 501c3 nonprofit educational organization, and while workshop fees are not deductible, dues are. The Board meets quarterly, and updates on our actions can be found in our TideLines newsletter. We welcome any member to attend Board meetings, and minutes are available upon request from the Secretary, while financial reports can be obtained from the Treasurer.
The image to the right showcases our 3' x 6' fabric Guild banner, created in 1990 by Debra Ferreboeuf, Cyndi Fox, Kay White, and Lynn St. James, with Lynn contributing the marbled fabric. The banner represents our beautiful coastline and the majestic Monterey Bay, and it is proudly displayed at conferences and events to represent our guild.
